About Me

My name is Majed Sheahab Hamad Mahmoud Alhammadi, I am 26 years old, and I am the oldest child in my family, so a lot of responsibilities rest on my shoulders as I believe all the oldest like me knows very well. Now I will write about my life story starting from the past and present then will mention my future plans.

We lived in Dubai exactly in Um Sugaim and at that time I was 4 years old my father enrolled me in Al Shaymaa Kinder Garden in Dubai. I enjoyed my life that time. The staff prepared a lot of enjoyable things for us. For example, they prepared parties for us and made many photos and videos which I have kept them till now and whenever I want to remember these happy moments, I look at them, hoping to go back to that best time again when I was careless and had few responsibilities.

The next year, when I was one year older, at the beginning of the academic year 1986-1987 I stayed only one week in the same kinder garden.

When they found out that I was the oldest kid there, they kicked me out and sent me to another kinder garden ,“Al Shorooq”, which had older kids in it. When I arrived at it, I cried for two hours. However, I made friends and we got use to each other.

On Sep,1987 we transferred from Dubai to Sharjah, I studied the primary school for only three years. In 1990 we transferred to Abu Dhabi, then the Gulf War began. I remember that time that government announcement, “Saddam will maybe use chemical weapons” therefore most of the nations started putting a nylon or trash bin bags in any part of their houses which can lets dangerous gases to enter houses, so they thought at that time it might avoid these gases go in.

I will now talk about what happened in last six years ago. When I graduated from secondary
school in 1999, I joined Borouge Company. It sent me with fourteen people to ADMC in order to get certificate in special program.

One year later I graduated, and then went to the company’s plant in Ruwais. I started my job as an operator in utilities section. I have got experience about five years. Seven months ago the company has chosen me to complete the education at the ADMC.

Now I am studying at the ADMC and aim to get a Bachelor degree in Chemical Engineering.

Critical Thinking Summary

Good critical thinking is skillful and responsible thinking in which you study problem from all angles, and then exercise your best judgment to draw conclusions. Supervisors, doctors, nurses and even students can use critical thinking everyday. Critical thinkers must listen carefully, look for evidence and be curious. Critical thinking begins when you question beyond what is given in order to draw conclusions. After that, you can end with a logical solution. This type of thinking has five important components: 1) Being Skillful. 2) Being Responsible. 3) Relies on sound criteria for making judgments. 4) Develops a presentation that is sensitive to context. 5) Correcting by yourself.

One way to classify thinking is Bloom’s Taxonomy. It is pyramidal in shape and illustrates six hierarchical levels of thinking, moving from simple at the bottom to more complex at the top. At the bottom is knowledge, which is remembering information. Then comes comprehension which is understanding and rewording information easily. After that is application which is paraphrasing in graphic format. Above application is analysis which is examination. Then above that is arranging events which are called synthesis. last is evaluation which is reading and reacting to the facts presented.

In sum, everybody has brains and thinks, but you should follow some tenets in order to be a critical thinker such as asking pertinent questions, observing, and becoming interested in finding new solutions.

An Inconvenient Truth....Evaluation

In my opinion, Al gore made his presentation about global warming because he is against President Bush’s strategies. He shows that the United Stated government’s army uses a lot of machines that produce big percentage of carbon dioxide. According to him the gasses layer around the earth block the radiation from going back to the space but how those radiation goes in to the earth and pass those layers of gasses. He said also all scientists agree that the main cause of the global worming is greenhouse gasses. But a lot of scientists think that the cause of the global worming is the water vapor.I think that scientists still not sure about the main cause of this climate changes. But still we have to keep our earth clean and reduce the pollutions level by using renewable sources. Hoever, he does a great job presenting the various forms of overwhelming evidence for global warming and mankind's link to it, but he doesn't do it in a political or spiteful way. He shows global temperature and atmospheric carbon patterns, and he shows that our last 20 years have been the highest by a long shot over the previous 600,000 years.

An Inconvenient Truth....Summary

In the 2006 movie “An Inconvenient Truth”, Al Gore, the former vice president of the USA, explains about the climate change which was the main factor of the death of his sister from lung cancer and also his son who was going to die by a car accident. He also outlines some several solutions perhaps help solve this problem.

There are many problems connected with global warming. One problem is ecosystem is changing quickly. Another issue is that the Co2 concentrations were found too high when scientists measured ice samples in glaciers. A further problem is that the oceans are warmer than the past. A final difficulty is that glaciers started melting which means coastal areas are flooding. Now I will outline some possible solutions which were mentioned by Mr. Al Gore.

One solution is to try to reduce Co2 concentration by planting vegetation in order to consume Co2 and produce oxygen. Another possibility is to use other types of energies, especially renewable forms instead of non-renewable ones. There are some renewable types of fuel – e.g. biofuel.A final alternative is to get rid of old cars which can be producing more Co2 than modern cars.

In sum, he explains different ways to solve this problem. Reduce the use of anything that produces carbon dioxide is the main solution. In addition, wants to clarify that regardless of how difficult it is, we should make sacrifices for that issue, and governments must work hand in hand to save the earth from imminent crisis.

My Carbon Footprint

Carbon footprint is a measure of the amount of carbon dioxide (CO2) emitted through the combustion of fossil fuel. In the case of an organization, business or enterprise, it is part of their everyday operations; in the case of an individual or household, it is part of their daily lives or a product. When I measured my footprint at http://footprint/ .org.uk I scored 2.09 planets, below the United Kingdom average. My scores in the four categories were stuff 35%. food 24%, travel 22%, and home 19% In addition, found that the calculation of my footprint is 8.73 tones per annum. I will now mention some of my footprint –related problems and some possible solutions.

There are many problems connected with my footprint calculations. One problem is never getting rid of materials which cannot be recycled such as. Another issue is using only one method of transportation for a long period every day like a car. A final factor is eating a lot of fish or meat regularly-e.g. once a day.

Now I will outline some possible solutions which can help solve these problems. One solution is to try to get rid of waste or exchange them for recyclable products such as plastic cups, plastic plates and toilet tissue. Another possibility is to reduce my carbon dioxide emissions by using buses, cycling and even walking. A final alternative is to limit my intake of fish or meat and buy fresh vegetables which come directly from local farms such as tomatoes and any green vegetables.

In sum, I believe that we should measure our footprint in order to become aware of how can we help the earth to avoid a crisis. Therefore, regardless of how difficult it is, we should make sacrifices to prevent global warming and governments must work hand in hand to save the earth from imminent crisis.

Cool Cities comments

Good Adaptations

Green vehicle solutions

As per the research transportation cover a huge percentage of global warming causes. Therefore engineers tried to develop clean alternative to be used instead of the fossil fuel.
Hybrid-vehicles are vehicles with low fuel consumption because of the electric motor that each car has. That type of car produces less amount of carbon dioxide therefore it is friendly to own environment. Governments as well try to reduce the fee and the taxes on those how own hybrid vehicle and free parking as well. The school buses and local transportation buses are also one of the main sources of pollutions. Therefore many cities replaced the ordinary diesel engine with clean gas or hybrid-vehicle to reduce the hydrocarbon level.

Energy efficiency solutions

The second method to reduce the amount of pollution that cause global warming is to reduce the use of energy. As per an American council the design of buildings and houses must be change. The new building design reduces the use of air conditioning system and use renewable sources to supply the building with need able electricity. Another solution is street lighting replacement. Ordinary light uses a lot of electricity to work. That type of light must be changed to (LED) bulb the give the same brightness and use less power.Another why to reduce energy efficiency is to combined power and heat. By doing this step there will be no lost of energy.

Renewable energy solutions

The third method to reduce the amount of pollution is to use renewable sources to produce electricity. Those days most of the power plants use fossil fuel to produce electricity. Therefore renewable sources such as solar or wind must be use. The method of producing electricity from renewable sources it’s not complicated and cheap as well. by using renewable sources the fossil fuel uses will be reduce and this will reduce the amount of carbon dioxide that can cause global warming.

Bad Adaptaions

The too expensive properties will ban normal people to enjoy having Cool Cities’ facilities, so all of these good things will be under control the rich people.

Cool cities are too costly due to requirements of high quality design and options in order to kick out Carbon Dioxide.

The expectancy Consumption of water is too much to Cool Cities therefore will have problems in water quantity.

TDIC project

My partner Marzouq Al Sayari and I researched about the Al Bateen Wharf project. You can enjoy watching our presentation which is embedded below this report. This presentation had given us information about what will be done in AL Bateen canal in few years later. Waterfront and luxury five-star hotel complex will be built and I believe this kind of projects will take a good place to attract tourists. It seems to be a very nice project due to high quality design by Otak Company and also seems to be nice by from the photos.

The project I liked the most was Saadiyat Island because it has been chosen properly due to strategic location in Abu Dhabi. In addition, this island will have a five star luxury hotel, health club and spa. This island will be a good destination for the people who like investment, sight seeing and relax in that beautiful hotel. A further point is the transportation as I believe it will be difficult to reach this island due to high attraction of the tourists especially during the weekend. However, there will be opportunities for job searchers which are on of the good.

The least interesting project was Qasr Al Sarab or Mirage palace which will be located in the middle of the UAE’s desert named liwa. It will also have a five star luxury hotel, health club and spa, tented villas and conference centered. Some people who don’t like long distance travel will not visit Qasr Al Sarab whish is bad point, but regardless to liwa is the best place for the other people who try to escape from crowded places and change routine of life. Another good point is this project will have many facilities e.g. aromatic hanging gardens and tented villas which will let guests feel desert life.

To sum up, these projects which are planned in Abu Dhabi are large and high-priced. At all costs they will attract many tourists and also will make good money therefore the country’s economy will flourish. However, the situation might get more complicated in the future than nowadays e.g. Swindling, theft and fraud which facing big cities around the world such as New York, Hong Kong…etc.
